The first of five days in and about Big Bend National Park, 4 days exploring and hiking and one day traveling from the north entrance to the west entrance with the rigs.

Our first stop was at the Dog Canyon Trail, we strolled in a bit, cannot really say hike, cause it was FLAT, FLAT, FLAT.  Since we had no idea how much more the day might bring, we decided to not use up all of our time or energy on this trail, as we could revisit if we felt an interest to do so.  Ended up, we did not find it necessary as we found some other really neat places to hike.  We believe if we had followed the trail we would have ended up at that "V" in this photo, well, we think!  LOL

They have had drought for 4 years, the crust of the earth is dried and cracked in places, but, some very tough flora still manage to survive, I almost stepped on this one, which would NOT have been a good thing, and I am sure would have required a trip to a hospital, probably many, many miles away.

It was only about 5 or 6 inches in diameter, here is a closer look, wicked, eh??

Man walking out, there is Jolly, and look at those beautiful "hills":

And, yellow flowers, struggling for beauty in a environment so harsh!  (Note:  My friend Linda who lives near Tombstone Arizona calls these pretty yellows Wild Desert Marigolds.  Thanks Linda!)

Later in the day we will go for a "real" hike, saw some interesting things. I'll show ya soon.
